“To always provide friendly expert advice and to help optimize all you’re pet’s health and well being through nutrition, knowledge, expertise, and experiences”
Our Aquatics Mission Statement
“Make it easier and more enjoyable for you to create a thriving salt water fish, fresh water fish or reef aquarium in your home or office. Whether you want to maintain your own aquarium or would like for us to design, install, and service it for you. Sierra Fish & Pets goal is to not only allow your livestock to survive in captivity, but to thrive in captivity.”
Our family began enjoying aquariums as hobbyists in the 1960’s and opened our first pet store in 1972. Sierra Fish & Pets was originally opened under a different name at the time, Fish Gallery & Pets. At first we started as one single store and eventually expanded into a total of 4 full-line pet stores through out the Seattle Metro area. In 1995 we acquired our fish-only saltwater specialty store called Blue Sierra Exotics that specialized in Saltwater and Freshwater Aquariums. We also operated our Aquarium Services out of this location. Currently we are now operating our single original flagship location, located in Renton WA just south of Seattle, which is a 7200 sq ft full-line pet-store that specializes in all around pet care with a huge emphasis on aquatics (freshwater and saltwater aquariums).
Bruce Sternberg originally started what were to become Sierra Fish & pets in 1972. He grew the stores into what became a very successful 4 store chain in the Seattle Metro area. Despite “semi-retiring” in 2003 he could not stay away form what he loved and what helped him build the business (the customers and employees), he now currently has a very active roll in Sierra Fish & Pets day to day operations at our flagship location where you can see him work in the store just like he did when it first was started in 1972. He also continues to do all the accounting work for the store and more.
Jonas Sternberg is “Second generation” owner and grew up in the pet industry. Even from day one Jonas was born into the store (figuratively speaking). From an early age you would see Jonas at the store as a young kid changing water, catching feeder fish, and cleaning filters. In 1990 at age 15 he became an active employee despite many years of bagging fish and helping customers in the family owned business. Right away he was drawn directly to aquatics and more specifically Saltwater. When Blue Sierra the Aquatic-only store was purchased in 1995 Jonas became the owner/operator and grew the store into a very successful Fish-only aquatic showroom. Jonas also started the Aquarium Maintenance service side of the business and grew that to a steady business that we continue to operate and grow today. Currently he is in charge of the all the day to day operations of the flagship location and has an active roll in the aquarium service side of the business setting up and servicing several aquariums throughout the Seattle area.

He has set-up and maintained several types of aquariums for himself and for customers throughout his career. In his spare time Jonas enjoys spending the time with his family and following Seattle sports teams.

Matt Hill, Reptile Manager, Saltwater and Freshwater Enthusiast
Hi, my name is Matthew Hill; I work at Sierra’s Fish and Pets as the Reptile Manager. I have been at SF&P since 2010. I have always been interested in animals. In college I undertook programs that had to do with animal research and lab sciences. I plan to follow a career in animal husbandry and animal studies, including animal research. I am currently interested in reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. I have had previous experience in the pet industry and I have kept pets my whole life. I believe that pets teach us about responsibility and the world around us. I also like to help people solve problems and help them with their animals.
